Meet GW230529: the gravitational wave from the merger of a 3.6 compact object and a neutron star

The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) collaboration has announced few days ago the detection of the coalescence of a neutron star and a compact object in the mass gap, the region between the masses of neutron stars and black holes. Discovered on the 29th of May 2023, this event was most likely a merger between a black hole and a neutron star. In this talk, I will present the results of the analysis of GW230529 by the LVK collaboration. I will also explore the impact this event has on the properties we infer of population of compact binaries. Finally, I will discuss the astrophysical implications of this event.
